So you want to attend 40 Days for Life, and you're looking to prepare to have the most impactful experience possible—and, if it's your first time, you might also be looking to feel a little more like you know what you're doing.
You're in the right place. Let's talk about how you can come with the physical materials (and information) you need to make the most of your time on the sidewalk.
Not sure if you want to participate in 40 Days for Life, or not quite sure what this is about? Check out our last article that breaks it all down.
Materials
Some people prefer to have something to hold or to show as they are praying. You don't need to wear or hold anything special to make an impact—praying is free and, we believe, is far more important than any material thing you might bring as you offer your physical presence in praying in front of abortion (or referral) facilities.
But if you feel a desire or inspiration to do so, look into buying something that can send a loving, lifesaving message! Here are 3 great things you can bring to your prayer vigil:
1. Signs
As you stand outside, you might want to show people what you're praying for.
Latter-day Saints for Life
We've created several signs you can download and use for free! These messages are tailored for you as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and they do not require any special training on how to talk with women in crisis or on how to refer them for help.
Right-click on images above to download.
Even though these signs are free to download, we recommend you pay to get them professionally printed in color and large enough to be read easily, if possible. Reach out to your local UPS, FedEx, or small business printer.
40 Days for Life
40 Days for Life sells a variety of signs! Check them out here:
Please keep in mind that several of these signs offer help to women in need; we recommend only using those signs if you are well prepared (preferably trained by 40 Days for Life) on how and where to refer people for more help. Please take shipping time into account to ensure your order will arrive in time for your prayer vigil shift(s).
2. Attire
In addition to or instead of a sign, some people prefer to wear statement clothing to share a message with others or to show unity with their prayer group.

40 Days for Life
Consider checking out their line of shirts, hats, sweatshirts, and more to show that you're with 40 Days for Life and why you're praying—plus, financially support a great nonprofit.

3. Flyers/Handouts
In our experience, most women going into an abortion (or abortion referral) facility won't stop to talk to you, but it happens sometimes.
Some may worry: What can I say to her?
We recommend Latter-day Saints for Life print off at least a couple copies of our Pregnancy Resources Guide just in case this happens! You will know exactly how to help her get started finding other help she may need if she chooses a way besides abortion.
