A message from Suzanne Mann, Latter-day Saints for Life Programs Director

I grew up in a home where my parents said, “I love you,” multiple times daily. Usually, it was just a simple declaration or a question. “You know I love you, don’t you?” Then sometimes an unexpected exclamation would burst out like a song. “I sure love you!”

There was a point in my figuring-life-out teenage years that I became bugged by these constant ‘I love you’ comments. Inside I would holler, “I know! You’ve told me a thousand times!”

Then one day, I realized they weren’t just empty words meant to irritate me.

My parents had been saying and showing me their love throughout my entire life—from my adoption as a newborn to centering their lives around their family. I knew they truly did love me! And more importantly, from their examples of unconditional love, I knew God loved me.

Elder Andersen counseled in his General Conference talk, April 2025:

“My dear brothers and sisters, the diminishing love for unborn children worldwide is a grave concern. God cherishes life. It is His work and His glory to bring immortality and eternal life to His children. As disciples of Jesus Christ, we cherish life. ‘By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.’ May we share our love even more abundantly with those who need us so desperately.”

We can all pray to know how to minister to those born and unborn by saying, “I love you” through words and/or actions, for it is never wasted effort!
